The groundnut is a herbaceous, erect or creeping plant.

The fruit (pod) grows underground. Oil, peanut butter or pasta, pastries, roasted peanuts, all these various products are made of groundnuts.

The first commercial importations into Europe occurred in England from The Gambia around 1835, and in France from Senegal in the 1840’s.
