Honey and sugar of plant origin are fast absorbed energetic foods. Honey is probably the most ancient sweetener consumed by man.

Produced for millennia in southern Asia, sugar has only been consumed in significant amounts since the 19th century in Europe.

Contrasting with the sugars that are extracted from sugarcane, maple-tree, palm-tree, sugar-beet or corn, the sweeteners produced synthetically have almost no nutritional value.
