Some religions are quite strict with regard to meat, e.g. Islam prohibits pork, Christians have fasting days, and animists are not allowed to consume totemic animals.

A person of Jewish confession should only eat kosher, i.e. meat drained of its blood and blessed by a rabbi.

The Massai have a totally different relationship to the blood of animals, men would ritually bleed a cow without killing it, and drink its blood to gain strength.
