Introduction

On the banks of the river Nile one of the greatest civilizations appareared and flourished in Egypt, in ancient world at the dawn of history. The roots of this civilization extended deeply in history more ten thousand years.

The ancient Egyptian civilization had agricultural features, due to the fact that Egypt was the cradle of agriculture and the majority of the population were working in agriculture and raising animals. The ancient Egyptian farmer, invented various agricultural tools and implements. He also dug canals and founded dykes, dams and Nilometers and knew irrigation engineering. He reclaimed lands, knew "Survey" as a science to survey and draw maps for agricultural lands and thier ownership.

In addition, he knew the calendar that dates back to the year 4241 B.C. as well as food and agricultural industries, thus, he weaved the finest and most transparent linen textiles well known in ancient world, and he made paper sheets from papyrus plant.

 

The ancient Egyptian also raised different birds and animals for farm work and for their products as well as for religious purposes. He gave special attention to animal medical treatment, fattening, selection and counting. It is worth mentioning that, he was very kind in dealing with his animals, and birds, therefore, they reproduced fast and increased in number and production.
For all these reasons, Egypt during various eras was the silo of the ancient world, its bread and food basket. Also, its agricultural products surplus reached its neighbours. These facts were mentioned in the heavenly holy books.

Egypt was called by its people "tameri", meaning the beloved land which is cultivated by the hoe. There were other descriptive names of Egypt, such as "Ta-Akht", meaning the land of flood and fertil soil, "Kmt", meaning the black soil, "Nht", meaning the land of sycamore tree and "Misr", the safe and civilized country. The name of Egypt was derived from the name of Earth God, "Geb" or from "Agpt", meaning the covered land with flood water.

For that fair historians said that, "Egypt is the gift of the Nile and the Egyptians", basically due to their sincere efforts to use and get the utmost benefit of that great river and to establish this great and well known civilization on its bank.
It is also said that, "The world's civilisations are the gift of Egypt and Egypt is the mother of the whole world".

 

The Ancient Egyptian Agricultural Museum is considered the unique source for the complete Agricultural antiquities collection, including; plant (flora) and animal (fauna) from prehistoric era, i.e., (Paleolithic era) up till the end the Pharaonic era. This museum is organized and arranged according to the most up-to-date display methods and techniques.

It has closed T.V Circuit, an audio visual broadcasting system about ancient Egyptian Agriculture besides laboratory for restoring, maintening and controlling various insects and microorganisms.
